Mar A Lago Worth

Palm Beach County Tax Assessor at Odds with Trump Over Mar-a-Lago's Valuation

Discrepancy Raises Questions About Trump's Tax Breaks

County Official Demands Payment if Value Claimed by Trump is Accurate

In a bold move, South Florida Democrat Jared Moskowitz has written to Palm Beach County, challenging the valuation of former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago property. Moskowitz claims that if Trump is declaring Mar-a-Lago to be worth $1 billion, as he has publicly stated, then he should be paying significantly more in property taxes.

The Palm Beach County Property Appraiser has appraised the market value of Mar-a-Lago to be between $18 million and $276 million. However, last year's tax rolls assigned the property a total market value of $276 million. While the 2022 rolls have not yet been finalized, it is estimated that the valuation will not increase substantially.

Moskowitz's letter underscores the significant discrepancy between Trump's claims and the official valuation of Mar-a-Lago. This discrepancy raises questions about whether Trump has been receiving unfair tax breaks on his prized property.

It is important to note that the valuation of Mar-a-Lago for property tax purposes is determined by its market value, not its appraised value. As such, the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser's valuation is likely based on factors such as comparable sales and market trends.

Trump has not publicly responded to Moskowitz's challenge. However, it is clear that this issue will continue to be a subject of scrutiny as the investigation into Trump's financial dealings intensifies.
